Here is the list of features: o Ability to upgrade from an FYI bug report to a customer tech support request via a purchase authorizing shell script (intended for credit card processing) o Tie-in to CVS source tree: + If certain conventions are followed in use of CVS tags in the source tree, a user command is available to view the patch associated with request in "closed" or "feedback" state. o Ability to group large numbers of bug categories via "supercategory" and "product" abstractions. Although of obvious use to Linux CD vendors, I think that companies will find these facilities useful as they grow and have lots of products to monitor or want to due bug tracking on behalf of other companies. o Customer feedback mechanism and summarization utility (e.g., for implementing performance bonus plans for technical support staff). o WWW interface enhanced correspondingly. These are big functional improvements to gnats that I think would make gnats much useful for implementing more technical support systems at more facilities. I have these patches for gnats-3.104-beta, and they have been sitting in my mailbox for months. Although I have not tested these patches, I do see that they apply and build with gnats-3.104-beta (actually, I had to comment out a few lines refering to a crypto library that we do not have here). I have placed a snapshot of these extensions in ~ftp/private/adam/gnats-3.104-extensions.tar.gz Anyhow, I would like to integrate these patches into latest development version, or gnats-3.2 if no latest version exists. I would like to coordinate this with the current gnats maintainer, and try to get this and any other enhancements released to the world as gnats-4.0 as soon as possible. I am quite handle getting this integration work done. I am sending this email now so as to start contact with the current gnats maintainer. Adam J.
